Hi Matt,
I would like to pose you a question about the book Psycho-Cybernetics:
Why do I have to view my target (for example a car) as if it’s already reached?
Mind will think I already have the car so how can bring me to the target if she thinks I already have it?
Can you explaine me please? Thank you so much from Italy.
Haby
Dear Haby,
First off, the primary goal of Psycho-Cybernetics is not to focus on cars, trinkets, toys, etc. but on the way you see yourself in your mind’s eye. Once you are aware of how you see yourself, you begin to focus on moving from A to B. You do NOT ignore A and only focus on B. You are aware of A and B as you create B. Same as you driving from Rome to Naples. You do not ignore where you are and hope to land where you want to go.
Second, in regard to secondary goals, i.e. goals to acquire prestige symbols, etcetera, once again, you focus on the goal of having what you want, but you remain aware of the fact that you aren’t there yet. There is no lying to yourself, as in “I now own the car of my dreams.”
Instead you think in terms of “I want a new car. I will get a new car. I’m going to get a new car.”
There is nowhere in Psycho-Cybernetics where Dr. Maltz teaches you to use positive affirmations, written or spoken, in order to “attract” what you want. In fact, Dr. Maltz specifically uses the words “I will” and “I want to” all throughout the book. I will and I want to imply that you are not there YET.
This means there is a simultaneous picturing of where you want to be as well as where you are. Being simultaneously aware of your goal as well as your existing circumstances DRIVES you to the goal whereas pretending you are already there while ignoring reality causes stagnation, complacency and a lack of positive results.
