Suppose you’re working on dropping some excess flabbage.
Let me tell you what one of the biggest psychological and sociological pitfalls is.
It’s listening to someone, often a nurse, nutritionist or dietician, tell you that you can eat whatever you want, so long as you do so in “moderation.”
The last thing you need to hear from someone who has never been overweight (or actually is) is that you need to eat from all the food groups every day, but to do so in moderation.”
Suppose we apply the words EVERYTHING in moderation to alcohol.
I suppose they fit, provided you’re not an alcoholic and have no pre-existing health conditions, but otherwise, it’s very bad advice that most certainly doesn’t apply to EVERYONE.
What some people can do moderately (or to excess) – other people cannot do at all, without putting themselves on the path of destruction.
So keep this in mind: “Everything in moderation” is the lazy thinker’s way of saying, “One-diet-or-one-drink-fits-all”
It doesn’t.
For example, my wife can eat sticky white rice every single day. She’s from China and her body knows what to do with this food.
As for myself, if I eat sticky white rice, I blow up. No amount of moderation is a good idea. The best thing I can do is completely avoid it.
Here’s some alternative advice for the lazy thinkers out there who champion the “moderation” mythology:
“Know thyself and thy body.”
Truism? I think so.
Here endeth the lesson.
