Last week I gave what was supposed to be a one-hour seminar to a group of athletes, coaches and parents on the “mind-body connection.”
Most of the people attending play baseball, but it really wouldn’t matter what any of these people played. It also wouldn’t matter if none of them were athletes because the material I taught is applicable to all people, all day long.
Now, despite the fact that the adults in the audience, many of whom are coaches (two are published authors with highly successful collegiate and professional athletes as clients), and have dedicated their entire lives to “getting better” – not a single person in the room knew any of the concepts I talked about BEFORE the seminar began.
Although I was only scheduled for an hour-long talk, I taught for nearly two, and I still hadn’t covered much of what I’d outlined.
And get this: One of the biggest secrets I covered, that no one in the room knew, was how to remove tension from your body with a shaking exercise I discovered in China many, many years ago. This exercise is so powerful, that on the rare occasion that I don’t feel well, I’ve used it to recover – and quickly.
Let me give you an example: A few years ago, while in China, I got a bad case of the hiccups. These hiccups made it impossible for me to eat or drink anything and keep it down. After a trip to the hospital to calm my irritated stomach, I still wasn’t feeling too good, so I laid down on my bed and asked my subconscious mind to deliver me the answer to what would get me feeling well again soon.
Shortly after asking this question I fell asleep and the answer came to me from out of “nowhere.” I opened my eyes, got to my feet and walked to a nearby room. Once I got into position, I performed this deep breathing exercise combined with shaking for no longer than 30 seconds, and something mind-boggling happened. My stomach calmed down – and the hiccups stopped.
I laid back down and fell asleep for an hour. My eyes opened when the hiccups began again, jarring me out of dream time. Figuring that I should do the exercise again, I walked back to my station and did the exercise. Once again the hiccups subsided and my stomach relaxed.
Over the next couple hours, I did this same exercise one more time, always followed by a nap. And when I finally woke up and no longer had the hiccups, I told my brother-in-law that I wanted to go to the store and get some yogurt. He told me that yogurt wouldn’t be good for my stomach, that I should eat something hot, like noodle soup.
I held my ground and said we could “test” what foods I should eat when we were in the store. He didn’t know what I meant by “test.” He probably figured I meant that I would eat something and see how I felt. But no. I had a completely different way of testing the food for whether or not it was beneficial.
The way I chose at the time was “muscle testing.” I’ve used it a lot over the years – and it’s valuable – but today I use much more esoteric methods that are much quicker, easier and reliable.
Even so, muscle testing is a secret to most people. They don’t have a clue as to how it works, or why. They don’t realize how you can “tap into” and discover information with this procedure that you’d never think was possible.
Yet, it is. Why? Because information is contained in “the field.” And if your body is free of tension, and you don’t have an agenda, you would be amazed at what you can uncover.
How did I get the answer to heal myself of the hiccups? Where did it come to me from? Was it in my brain or was I tapping into something beyond the brain?
Good questions.
Earlier today, as I was driving, I began thinking about a flight I need to book in the near future. Less than 20 seconds later I received an email from a person who told me he was handling my travel arrangements. Did I sense him writing an email to me? Hmmm. Well, I don’t think it was a coincidence. Not when seemingly coincidental experiences like this happen all the time.
When you’re in flow, that is.
And this brings me to one of the central secrets I revealed last Monday in the 2-hour seminar. It goes as follows:
“TENSION IS THE ENEMY OF PROGRESS.”
Think about it. When you have tension, it’s hard to move forward. It’s hard to think. It’s hard to do much of anything. And when you do something with tension, you aren’t doing it nearly as well as you could.
There’s a Chinese proverb: “Relaxation is who you are. Tension is who you think you should be.”
Profound proverb, it is.
Ever meet someone who can’t relax? Someone who even thinks relaxation is bad?
People who think this way believe that you cannot make progress without grinding, pushing, striving and fighting for everything you get. Yes, you can make progress this way – but there are negative repercussions.
One of the biggest repercussions is that you eventually break down – and break down HARD. Physically and mentally, if you push to exhaustion all the time, there is a price you pay. And it’s expensive.
Second, grinding, pushing, striving and fighting are NOT how you get into THE FLOW. Last time I checked, flowing energy is more powerful than grinding energy.
And it always will be.
Why? Because when you’re flowing you’re relaxed. You’re not trying or striving. You’re doing while being. You’re being what you do.
I went on record last Monday saying the following, “Tension is the enemy.”
Someone may interpret this as a new opponent to fight. “Okay, I got it. Enemy defined, now I must wage war against him.”
Nah nah nah nah nah.
It’s more like “Enemy defined – now make him your friend.”
Use tension as your guide. Every time you feel tension, you’re being given a signal to “let go” – to be relaxed and smooth. To get into THE FLOW.
Okay, enough FLOW for now. I could go on all day on this topic – and will for two days this coming November, in Clearwater, Florida at THE FLOW II – a seminar that trumps all others, with ease.
Be there, my friend, and you’ll truly experience a profound change in your life as tension is released from your mind-body and much more – on all levels.
Come to THE FLOW II and immerse yourself in the power of tension-free living.
Best,
Matt Furey
P.S. Oh, and by the way, here’s another Fureyism to remember: “Anyone who says ‘there are no secrets’ isn’t in flow. The very essence of being a successful human being requires you to look, enquire, uncover, discover and recover what you didn’t previously understand.”
