The same goes for goals.
You can have as many goals as you want, but all of them are accomplished in single file. And mysteriously, a good many of your goals will get accomplished as you focus on the ONE that matters MOST to you.
Many people write to ask how many goals to focus on when doing Theatre of the Mind. They are often shocked by my answer:
“ONE.”
“But, but, but… I have a lot of goals, and if I only focus on one, I’m afraid I will only achieve one,” is a common answer.
“Test it out and you’ll have your answer,” I reply. “I get far more done when I focus on one thing than I do if I attempt to focus on a dozen things. And the dozen things still get done.”
Back in July and August, my focus was on finishing my new book, One Breath at a Time. I spent so much time focusing on and working on that book that you might think I got nothing else accomplished. Yet, I still managed to write both of my monthly newsletters, create videos, practice martial arts, and so on.
It would appear that I was focused on multiple tasks, all at the same time. Not at all.
I focused on ONE GOAL and the fire of desire naturally and effortlessly spread to other things as I was taking a break from the ONE.
One of the main reasons people attempt to multi-task or focus on a lot of goals simultaneously is due to the emotional conflict and turmoil they feel about not living up to certain ideals and standards.
I have heard people say, “I should be doing more than I am,” or “I should be further ahead than I am.”
Don’t should on yourself.
Dr. Wayne Dyer used to say, “You can never should have done anything.” Bullseye.
“Should have done,” or “should be,” is an unhealthy guilt trip you slap on a sandwich to force-feed yourself something that is rotten. It doesn’t work. It doesn’t lead to get more done. In fact, it leads to getting almost nothing done.
In the future you can be better off than you currently are – but you can never “should have been better.” It’s over. Move on.
And put your focus on ONE GOAL.
This is what I show you how to do in my new book. It’ll save you a ton of time, agony and grief.
You’ll get MORE done in LESS time because your focus on one thing magnifies everything else.

P.S. Every breath you take comes in single file, too.
