Most people are taught to write their goals out as if they were already an accomplished fact.
For example, if your goal is to become a millionheir or millionheiress, you are told to put this in writing with words such as: “I am now a millionaire, (and doggone it, people love me).”
According to legend, or fable, this is what ALL the most successful people in the world do. Yet, the truth is, this is most certainly not true… not at all.
Many moons and sleeps ago, I learned to write my goals on a card, and get this, in a single word, if possible.
The first time I gave this method a whirl was back in college. I wanted to be the number one guy, the varsity wrestler, on the team. So I wrote the word “Varsity” on a card.
Did I accomplish this goal?
I sure did.
After I accomplished this I wrote the words “National Champion” on a card.
How’d that work out for me?
Very well.
I did the same years later with the words, “World Champion.” And so on.
What’s my point in this little post? My point is that your mind thinks in pictures – so all you need to put in writing are the words that create the mental picture of what you want – and nothing more.
The words “I AM” aren’t going to get your hand raised in victory when the battle is done. In fact, using “I AM” can derail you and keep you from getting where you want to go.
You might think that you must state your goals with the three P’s, telling yourself that you have already accomplished your goal, when you obviously haven’t, but I haven’t found that way to be useful or workable because you’re fighting your subconscious mind.
Yes, your subconscious mind DOES KNOW the difference between a goal that has been accomplished and one that you are still working on. And there is absolutely NO HARM in acknowledging this reality. In fact, knowing the difference is the key to Creating What You Want.
If you don’t believe me, that’s fine. But test it out before you condemn me. I think you’ll find that I knows what I’m talkings abouts.
Start with something you want to accomplish TODAY – not 58.5 years from now.
Doodle a word or three on a card, look at it and form a mental picture of yourself accomplishing that result. Then get to work.
Let me know how it goes. I’m betting you’re going to knock one out of the park today.
By the way, there’s a lot MORE where this huge tip came from. ’tis why I have various levels of coaching. My illustrious Theatre of the Mind Newsletter is the first level of coaching that I encourage you to get involved in, if you can swing it.
It’s not cheap, but you’ll definitely learn how the cat catches the mouse… and how you can catch what you’re after.
