This morning when I was dropping off my son at school, I was listening to the Amazing Kreskin give his predictions for the future of America.
When asked how long the current economic recession will last, he buffered his statements by letting the listener know that he picked Obama to win the presidential election in December of 2007, when no one knew much about him -and everyone assumed Hillary was a definite “yes.”
He then let us know that he also picked the Giants as the winner of Super Bowl XLII – by three points.
With the above credibility in place, he said that he believes the recession will last another 4 1/2 YEARSSSS.
Then he said that if some smart moves are made this year, there may be some light showing as soon as 2010.
Now, I don’t know how YOU would respond to these predictions, but I’ll let you know what I think about them. Here is a breakdown of my opinion:
1. Only 4.5 more years. That’s awesome. At least it won’t go on forever.
2. I don’t choose to participate in this recession – now or for another 4.5 years. I choose to imagine and believe that I CAN create my own favorable economic conditions in good times as well as bad. And I remind myself of all the people who previously made fortunes during even worse economic times.
3. Are people going to WAIT 4.5 years to go for what they want in life. Are they going to look at this recession as something that is controlling their life – or are they going to act as if there is no recession and thereby create a better life for themselves.
There are three magic words located in the comments listed in items 1-3. Do you recognize them.
They are “act as if.”
Imagine for a moment that you were in a coma for a while and you just woke up today. Upon opening your eyes you heard from a group of people who told you that there was a ton of money to be made. Imagine they told you the sky was not the limit.
Not only that, but this group isolated you from television, newspapers, talk radio and all other sources that gave an opposite point of view.
Imagine that you believed this group and you acted upon their words. Everyday you got out of bed, looked at the goal for what you wanted to create – and you imagined it with great emotion.
Then you looked at all the things you needed to do to fulfill your goal – and you started clicking them off, one by one.
Now, you tell me where you’d be in 4.5 years compared to the person who listened to the tee-vee each day, believed the opposite and acted contrary to what you were doing.
Would you be further ahead – or way behind.
Would you hold any advantage over the other person.
No, I am not saying there are no economic problems today. There are – but what if you took time each day to focus on your goals and the actions you needed to take to achieve them – instead of the doom and gloom forecasts.
Which would help you most of all.
My experience and the experience of those whom I have coached and mentored – as well as those who have followed the advice I lend in 101 Ways to Magnetize Money – will tell you that your “imagination is the key” to a better life – closely followed by your willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed.
Are you willing to imagine a better life. Not just once – but day after day.
Are you willing to do whatever it takes – day after day – for as long as it takes to create the life you want.
Well then, you can have it.
Even in the worst of times your creative imagination and creative ability to act reign supreme.
