When I was a young kid I was a passionate New York Yankee’s fan.  It was the days of Mantle & Maris, Boyer, Richardson, Moose, and Yogi.
Not the Majarishi Yogi, but the most famous Yogi of them all, Yogi Berra.

Yogi was a Hall of Fame catcher, and an inspiration to me as a Little League player.  In addition to his credentials as a ball player, Yogi became even more famous for some of the things he said.

One of my favorite Yogi sayings goes like this, ‘If you don’t know where you’re going, you’re likely to end up somewhere else.’

I’ve been to a few sales seminars in my time, and there was always time devoted to setting goals. Even now I can hear the speakers, ‘Write
all your goals down, everything you want to do in the next forty years, and then?..’

Let’s back up a little and make this a little easier. Let’s lighten the load a bit.

Let’s start with (a) goal. One goal.  We’re not going to climb Mt. Everest tomorrow. Let’s try, for instance, getting to work a little early, walking
in the door, being relaxed, giving your co-workers a genuine smile. That’s realistic.  Its one goal.  That’s all for today.  Git ‘er done!

So we have a realistic goal that can be accomplished.  When it’s done, set another goal.

Get that done.

One goal at a time/one goal per day.  In a week or two, you’ll be surprised at the changes you have made.  When you have come this far, you can up the ante a little. But let’s be realistic, and take things slowly. Let’s get used to patting ourselves on the back for what we have accomplished.

If you were able to see the thoughts coming from the minds of those who have and compare them to the thoughts of the have-nots – you’d be startled at what you discover.

If you think the thoughts of the have-nots and the haves are the same – think again. The thoughts aren’t different because the haves currently “have.” No, the haves currently “have” because of how they’ve been thinking.

FACT: The have-nots use the phrase “I can’t afford it” over and over again. They frequently say this to explain to themselves that they cannot have what they want to have.

On the other foot, the “haves” use a different COMMAND when confronted with the fact that they don’t have enough money for what they want. And this COMMAND opens the gates of heaven to them. Their desire is fulfilled because they speak two magic words that the have-nots don’t use.

Yes, the have-nots know these two words, they just don’t bother to use them whenever they want to have something. Instead, they say “we can’t afford it” or “we don’t have the money” or “our financial situation is not very good.”

One of the best “worst” phrases I ever heard was, “I’m strapped right now.”

Woooooaaaa. “I’m strapped.” Think of the mental picture this forms whenever you say this – and the feeling it creates. The person saying “I’m strapped” makes it appear as if he’s getting flogged or scourged.

Meanwhile, the person who is moving from have-not to have says the following before uttering the two magic words: “I really want to get what you have and I’m going to (blank) and (blank). I’ll get back to you soon.”

The other day I was coaching a guy by phone and about halfway through the call I asked, “Do you deserve success?”

“No,” he said.

Bad answer.

I gave him a second chance by asking the question a different way. Same answer.

Then the man said something he probably thought of as profound: “No one really deserves success. You either want it or you don’t. That’s all.”

“Okay,”I said, “tell me about these people who don’t have clean water in villages in Africa. Do they deserve clean water?”

“Yes.”

“What about you?”

“Uh, good question. Let me think about it.”

“Think about it?” I bellowed. “What’s there to think about?”

“You know, I’m really stuck on this one,” he said. “I don’t know why I think this way and maybe it’s part of the reason I’ve felt stuck.”

“It may be more than PART of the reason,” I replied. “Wanting something is important, but believing you are worthy, deserving and entitled to it is a HUGE portion of the successful mind set.”

“Maybe this is part of my Christian upbringing,” he said.

“Nonsense,” I replied. “I’ve heard Buddhists, Jews, Catholics and non-believers spout the same crud.”

“So wanting it isn’t enough?”

“Correct. It’s just like the people who want more money – but believe having it is bad. How can you attract something you are against? How can you want something but not believe you deserve to have it? Doesn’t make any sense to me at all.”

“Okay, so how do I make myself deserving?” he asked.

“Follow everything I teach in 101 Ways to Magnetize Money,” I replied. ”

“Begin studying it right now. And as you do, look around your home. See everything you have before you and declare, “I deserve to have this. I have a right to it. Then, once you get used to doing that – do it with the things you don’t yet have, but want.”

Traveling in foreign countries is great, especially when you go to places where you never leave a tip.

I love Japan. No tips for the bellman in the hotel. No tips for the taxi drivers. No tips for the waitress.

In China, no tips for waitress. No tips for taxi. The bellman, however, will gladly accept.

In the U.S., many people earn part of their living via tips from customers. And you can learn a lot about human behavior by watching how a waiter or waitress acts when the meal is nearly over.

Some waitresses are rude – until the meal is nearing completion. Then they go through a transformation. They put on a happy face and make polite conversation.

Others come up from behind and place a hand on your shoulder or back – injecting tip intention into your central nervous system. That’s one way service people try to magnetize money.

Do you fall for it?

Okay, let’s play a game to see how much guilt you have or don’t have about money.

Go into a restaurant and leave without paying a tip.

Just once.

Note how you feel.

Next time leave a tip that is double what you’d normally leave.

Once again, note how you feel.

After each incident, pay attention to how much extra change you begin magnetizing toward you.

When you don’t tip or tip extra (I’m only talking about the U.S. here) – does this behavior make you feel worthy of more?

Moreover, does worthiness or deservingness have anything to do with earning power?

Years ago a book came out entitled, Do What You Love, the Money Will Follow.
