This morning I decided to do something different.
I decided to apply one of my guiding principles while signing copies of my newest, latest, greatest book.
Here’s how this looks… and let me tell you, my brain buzzeth over.
1. I grab a stack of 10 books and separate them into lots of five.
2. I autograph five books, then get out of my chair, walk across the room and insert those five books into a box.
3. I take a seat and sign another five books, then I get up and put those away, too.
4. Then I grab another stack of 10 books and repeat the same process.
Now, what on earth does this have to do with anything, much less “getting your goals?”
Well, if you’ve been following my always-evolving writings on getting things done, I do NOT advocate pushing yourself to exhaustion (other than once in a while as a test). Nor do I advocate “getting out of your comfort zone.”
Instead, I advise you to “find your comfort zone” by smaller sets of five or ten minutes of an activity, in which you are not “scaring yourself” or monkeying with your brain and nervous system in a way that you have to force yourself to move forward.
Instead, you coax yourself, by starting with small, simple, almost ridiculous goals. And the result is that catapults you forward. It gives you momentum. It makes you WANT to do more.
In my case, after signing only five books, I was eager to sign another five, and another, and another….
Last week, when it was high-time to autograph my books, I signed and signed and signed, relentlessly, till my hand ached. I took no breaks.
I can do that… I can push myself this way, turning something I enjoy doing into something I have to force myself to do.
Today I chose a radically different approach, as outlined above. Instead of signing a box of 40 books, followed by another box, and another, I signed only five books, then took a break.
The result? My brain loves this departure from the norm so much that I am buzzing almost beyond belief. And I am stunned. This “small sets” approach works for anything and everything.
In fact, by following this method, not only am I buzzing, but I am also applying one of the central tenants of my new book: One Breath at a Time: The Secret Sayings for Getting Your Goals and Creating the Life YOU WANT.
The feedback on my book has been tremendous. One reader declared it a “HOME RUN.”
Another took note of how the beginning and ending of the book paid homage to my parents. He especially noted how moving the chapter entitled “Last Breaths” was.
The chapters in my book are titled as “Breaths.”
First Breath… Second Breath… Third Breath… all the way to Final Breaths.
But the Final Breaths chapter is not the end because it segues into Infinite Breaths.
There’s a definite BUZZ you’ll pick up on as you read… and breathe your way through my book.
It’s not just the BUZZ of what I wrote… but the way I autographed each copy.
If you want some of this BUZZ, go here NOW and get some.
