How Do You Visualize a Bull RideDear Friend,
Todd from Michigan writes in an email, "I have a passion for bull riding, but I find it hard to visualize rides in my mind because a ride is never exactly the same. My mind seems to wander off track while attempting the 'theatre of the mind' exercise."
Well Todd, you are a brave guy. I can't say that I'd ever want to ride a bull, but each of us has our own passions. And that's a good thing.
Here's what I think: Nothing we do is exactly the same. It's similar, but not exactly the same.
I've ridden the same horse many times, and she didn't behave the same on every ride - yet, I'm still riding a horse and can visualize the general concept of how I want things to go.
With bull riding, just because the bull doesn't buck the same way doesn't mean you are not riding a bull. If I were you I would simply visualize myself riding the bull and no matter what he does - you're the master.
Here's another example: One day my wife gathered all the ingredients to make vegetable beef soup. As I recall there were about 25 ingredients, and about half way thru she stopped because she didn't have any thyme.
I said, "Why are you stopping?"
She said, "The recipe called for thyme and we don't have any."
I looked at the recipe and said, "I don't think it will make any difference. Just leave it out."
Then she said, "But it's in the recipe!"
I said, "Recipes are just guidelines, they don't have to be exact."
Guess what? She went ahead and made the soup without the thyme .... and it was delicious.
When we open up the parameters of our vision, the way to success is easier. Enjoy the ride and let the variety be a good thing.
P.S.: Want to master the art of visualizing, then having your own perfect "bull ride" - whatever that may be? Then trot on over here and see how easy it can be for you.
