"How to Become a Super Human Success"

In May of 1987, shortly after graduating from college, I was at a crossroads. I had spent every dollar I had, and then some, to open a personal fitness training studio. And although I had signed up a few clients within the first couple weeks - if I didn't get MORE students real fast, I'd be out of business within 30 days.
One evening, when I was training a 57-year old salesman named Jack, he and I began talking about all the books we had read about goal setting, motivation, visualization and positive thinking. We shared quotes we had memorized as well as stories that moved and motivated us.
Then Jack asked me a question that would lay the foundation for where I am in life today:
"Have you ever read Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz?"
"No, what's it about?" I replied. "Never heard of it."
"Oh my," Jack said. "You absolutely MUST read that book. Psycho-Cybernetics is THE BIBLE of self-improvement. I read it 15 years ago and it turned my life around. Everything you see and experience is dictated by this self-image. And if you have a self-image that says ‘I'm ugly' - you'll still think you're ugly even if you're not. Even after plastic surgery."
"Hmm," I groaned, in deep thought about a secret I was carrying.
"Dr. Maltz then became world famous because he figured out a way to remove the internal scars these people had through a visualization he called Theatre of the Mind. And when people did what he taught they were healed in ways that he could not touch with a scalpel. His visualizations were literally like a ‘Magic Scalpel' that healed internal scars."
When Jack talked about scars I knew something about the subject. Five years earlier, when I began my collegiate wrestling career, I got into a fracas that left me with several "ugly" marks on my face. These scars were something I didn't feel good about - so I refused to talk about them, or think about them.
As soon as our session ended that evening I drove to the nearest bookstore and bought a copy of Psycho-Cybernetics. I couldn't put it down until I finished.
The next morning I got up and did the visualizations in Psycho-Cybernetics as best I could. To my amazement I began to immediately radiate a feeling of confidence that felt almost magical. I continued doing the exercises each day and noticed something profound taking place in my life.
First, I began to lose my fear of failing in business. My fear was replaced with a feeling of confidence that people could feel across the room. Feelings of failure and inadequacy left me as well. Most importantly, to my surprise, the emotional scars from my past began to be healed.
Life changed for me on the outside as well.
The phone began to ring with prospects eager to become clients. Money flowed to me with ease. Everywhere I went people took note of a positive presence in the room - and they wanted to know what I was doing to feel so good about life.
