I can’t tell you how many times I’ve beat peopel who are in much better shape, have trained harder and longer, but just get freaked out when it comes to a competition. This weekend I’ve got the American Birkibiner which is North America’s largest Cross Country ski race in Hayward Wi. 7000 do it every year. I’ve got friends who change wax on their ski’s i the middle of hte night panicky about if there ski’s are going ot be fast or not, or if the’ve trained well enough, or if they can finally beat me. I just imagine nothing but having fun and skiing effortlessly in my mind even though I know my heart rate will be at 160 for 2 and a half hours. I feel I’ve got that competitive edge and it started when I was young in all the years of competition. At 46 I love competition as much as I did in the old punt, pass, and kick days when I was a kid.
